Koala Hats Sauna Rating

9.2/10

A genuinely hot cedar sauna, a 7°C plunge and a private shower, all in one spotless room.

We visited TC Recovery in Drummoyne as part of our search for Sydney's best saunas. Its private recovery room combines a cedar sauna reaching up to 95°C, a 7°C cold plunge and a private shower in an exceptionally clean and spacious setup, right beside the Bay Run. We visited on 28 September 2026 and rated it 9.2/10.

If you are searching for a TC Recovery Drummoyne review, here is what the private room was actually like, what to know before you book and how it compares to the other saunas we have tried around Sydney.

TC Recovery Drummoyne review: the short answer

TC Recovery set a high benchmark for our Sydney sauna series. The private room gives you a genuinely hot traditional cedar sauna, a cold plunge and a shower in one spotless space, without sharing it with a communal group. The heat is proper sauna heat, not the lukewarm setting you often get at a commercial gym. If you want real contrast therapy with privacy and an easy booking, it is hard to fault.

Watch our TC Recovery review

In the video we walk through the private room, the cedar sauna, the 7°C plunge, the private shower and the adjustable lighting. The routine is simple: sauna, plunge, shower, then back into the sauna. You can also watch the Reel on Instagram.

Where is TC Recovery Drummoyne?

TC Recovery is at 461 Henley Marine Drive, Drummoyne, right beside the Bay Run and the waterfront. It is a purpose-built recovery studio in Sydney's inner west, and the location alone is a big part of the appeal. A walk or run along the Bay Run before your session makes for a pretty good morning.

Parking nearby was easy when we visited, and booking was simple. You can follow the studio on Instagram at @tc_recovery.

What the private room is like

This is the room we used for our review, so everything in this section is first-hand. It was extremely clean, the room felt premium and well maintained, and it was very spacious. There was plenty of room to move around and film, which is not something you can say about most private recovery setups.

Everything sits in one room: a traditional cedar sauna, a private 7°C cold plunge and a private shower. Towels were available. The lighting is adjustable, so you can change the colour and the atmosphere of the room to suit the session.

The sauna: proper heat

The private sauna gets up to approximately 95°C, and you feel it. It is strong, proper sauna heat rather than the lower temperatures you often get at a normal commercial gym. If you like a traditional cedar sauna that actually works, this ticks the box.

We wore our 100% Australian merino Koala Hat throughout the session. At these temperatures the heat is strongest around your head, and a wool sauna hat helps reduce direct dry heat exposure, helps with head heat comfort and supports hair and scalp comfort. It made the hot rounds feel more comfortable.

Contrast therapy made easy

The biggest strength of the private room is how easy it makes contrast therapy. Because the sauna, plunge and shower are all in the same room, there is no walking between areas or sharing the plunge with strangers. We ran the routine below, and it flowed perfectly.

The main studio

TC Recovery also has a larger main recovery area. We only used the private room for this review, so we have not personally tested the main studio. According to TC Recovery's website, the main traditional sauna is a 4-person Finnish-style sauna that can reach up to around 100°C, and the studio also offers infrared saunas, cold plunges and compression boots.

The studio also offers memberships aimed at regular weekly users. Compared with repeatedly paying for casual recovery sessions, memberships look like the better option if you plan to go often. Check the website for current membership options and pricing.

TC Recovery pricing and trial offers

At the time of writing, TC Recovery's website advertised a private room 7-day trial for $29 and a 7-day studio trial for $19. They also run other introductory offers from time to time, so what you see when you book may differ. Pricing and membership options change, so always check the TC Recovery website for current details.

Private suite sessions are listed as 60 minutes for one person on ClassPass, which TC Recovery also uses for bookings. Confirm session length and options when you book.

Koala Hats Sauna Rating: 9.2/10

TC Recovery earned a 9.2/10 from us. Here is how each part of the visit scored.

Sauna and heat9.5/10

Facilities9.5/10

Value8.8/10

Vibe and location9.0/10

The heat is the standout. At around 95°C it is a proper cedar sauna, and it is a big step up from the lukewarm saunas at many gyms. The facilities are excellent, with the sauna, plunge and shower all in one clean, spacious private room. Value scores slightly lower only because a private room naturally costs more than a shared gym sauna, though the trial offers and memberships help. The location beside the Bay Run and the adjustable lighting give it a premium feel without making it stuffy.

TC Recovery vs Harbour Heat

We have now reviewed two very different Sydney saunas. TC Recovery is a private, controlled, indoor setup with a refrigerated 7°C plunge, ideal if you want proper contrast therapy in your own room. Harbour Heat at Q Station is a communal wood-fired sauna with the harbour as your plunge. Both scored highly for different reasons. Read our Harbour Heat sauna review to see how they compare.

Is TC Recovery worth it?

Yes. It is best for people who want a genuinely hot traditional sauna and a cold plunge in a private room, with an easy booking and a clean, premium setup. If you prefer a communal or outdoor experience, you might look elsewhere, but for private contrast therapy in Sydney it set a high benchmark for us.
